My story

💙🩵🤍Katie’s walk🤍🩵💙

In loving memory of my beautiful, amazing sister, Katie Anderson 💙🩵🤍
This is a team page that I have set up for all members. The name is taken from the song ‘Driven by you’ which queen released after Freddie had passed so it seems apt, as we are doing this in memory of and will no doubt be driven on by, Katie.
We are the sibling squad so we have:- Me - Katie’s sibling. (And let’s be honest Katie will be there too!)
Rob Anderson, Katie’s husband, and his sister, Vicki Anderson.
Rob Cannon (Rib), Katie’s stepdad, and his twin brother, Alan Cannon. (Yes there are two of them!🤣)
Our story - On 23rd March 2025 our lives were irrevocably changed when my beautiful little sister, Katie (pictured) passed away from Bowel Cancer. As many people are doing various challenges for various causes, I wanted to concentrate this story on the assistance MacMillan provided to Katie at the end of her life.
On 19th February 2025 Katie asked her Oncologist ‘how long she had left’. She had never asked this question prior to this, at all. She was told she had weeks.
Katie expressed her wish to be at home and as such her care team was changed over from Chester to Northwich to allow this to happen. The Northwich team included a team from Macmillan, who were invaluable in everything they put into place for Katie, and for us. Ensuring that Katie had the correct medication, a syringe driver fitted, a hospital bed at home, twice daily visits from the care team and overnight nurses during her last week with us 💗
They made what was an awful time, so much easier for Katie & us all.
To say this challenge hits differently again this time around is an understatement. In 2018, Rib, Katie and I first undertook this challenge. In 2022, after Katie’s diagnosis we did it again, with Rob & Vicki joining us. This year we do it in Katie’s memory. Which is something we will never get used to saying. 💙🩵🤍

We are taking on the Peak District Mighty Hike, pushing our limits again, to raise £250 each in support of Macmillan Cancer Support, because no one should have to face cancer alone. Today, almost 3.5 million people in the UK are living with cancer, a figure that's growing steadily. Macmillan’s goal is to be there from diagnosis through every step of the journey. That’s where we come in. Your donation, no matter the size, will help ensure that no one has to face cancer without the care, compassion, and expert support they deserve. Together, we can make a Mighty difference.
