My story

Early in 2025 I decided I was gonna sign up to Macmillans Mighty Hike in honor of my Mum and Dad who both passed from cancer. If I could raise a little money for the charity that helped my family during the worst moments of their illnesses I thought it would be a great way to give back.

Training in full swing my world fell apart once more.

On the 1st April 2025 I went for an appointment to get a lump checked. I have had these before, one being removed in 2007 and then another in 2009. Both were benign and nothing to worry about. At the appointment I had a mammogram and was immediately told the lump I had found looked like another benign lump and nothing suspicious. However, they had seen two more lumps in my other breast which were suspicious looking and I went straight in for a biopsy.

Two weeks later I went back for the results and my worst fears came true, one of the lumps was cancer, the other lump was unclear. They needed further biopsies which were done whilst I was there. So another two week wait ahead of me to get more results. Whilst waiting for results I had to go for a CT scan, MRI scan, bone scan and ultrasound.

Another two weeks later and I go back for the results. The second lump was also cancer. I had two separate lumps in the same breast with two different types of breast cancer. All I could think about during that time was how was I gonna tell my children, they had already lost their grandparents to cancer and now I had it too.

Scroll forward a year I have had surgery, radiotherapy and am still having hormone therapy which is hopefully keeping those nasty cells at bay. Luckily I didnt need chemotherapy, I thank God for this.

I consider my self lucky, I have got through this year. It wasnt easy but it could have been worse. I am not the same person I was a year ago, my body is forever changed, I am tired, always tired and a live with the fear that there is a risk of this returning at any time.

During my own fight I leaned on the services of Macmillan and the support and advice they gave me was invaluable. With this in mind and because I couldn’t complete the hike last year I have again signed myself up and will be taking part in the Thames Path Mighty Hike in June this year.

I know times are tough at the moment, but if you spare any money to donate towards this fantastic charity who help people when their world’s are crumbling I would mean the world to me. Even the smallest amount would help with the services they provide.

Thanks for taking the time to read my story, much love ❤️
